Loft Conversions in Chelsea, Fulham and the Surrounding Areas |
Which Conversion Will Suit Your Property Best?

As we’ve explained in some of our other blog posts, conversions are faster, cheaper, and equally as beneficial as house extensions – if you have a suitable area in your Chelsea or Fulham home to convert. From basements and garages to barns and sheds, each offers a variety of benefits, but by far, our building contractors at ABC Builders Ltd consider loft conversions the most effective. Why not contact us to discover what our creative ideas can do for you? And don’t forget to visit our other loft conversions blog on our website.

Space-Creating Solutions

You'll gain so much more potential by renovating your loft space and incorporating it into the property’s living areas. Completed conversions offer endless opportunities to rearrange living conditions, expand social areas, create dedicated work zones, or even that master bedroom suite you’ve always wanted. Whatever you visualise, ABC Builders can make it happen.

Which One Will Suit You?

Four main types of loft conversion are available to clients in Chelsea, Fulham and the surrounding areas. These are as follows:

  • Arrow

    Dormer

  • Arrow

    Hip-to-Gable

  • Arrow

    Mansard

  • Arrow

    Velux/Rooflight

Some UK building companies also specialise in modular loft conversions, where the entire addition is constructed off-site and installed in one piece.

Dormer

The most widely recognised loft conversions, dormers are box-shaped additions slotted into the pitch on one side of a roof. Depending on your choice, they can be completed with flat roofing materials or matching roof tiles. Windows are flush with the construct and can be enhanced by optional Juliet balconies. ABC Builders can install dormers as smaller inserts or a single unit. Overall, they provide additional floor and head space along one side of the loft.

Hip-to-Gable

Suited for hipped roofs in Chelsea and Fulham, our building contractors can build up the gable wall of your property and extend the roof across to join it. This procedure adds head and floor space at the gable end of the roof where previous access would have been extremely limited. The newly created space is perfect for a new staircase installation or a bathroom suite, as all plumbing and pipework can be easily inserted from the gable’s exterior.

Mansard

Easily mistaken for dormers, mansard loft conversions are typically seen on townhouses throughout London. They are double-sided, creating an entirely new floor, and by far the best option if you’re looking to maximise the loft’s potential. The main difference between dormers and mansards is the angle at which they are inserted. Whilst the former stand at 90°, the latter are angled at approximately 72°. The difference is minimal when it comes to the space they create.

For our clients in Chelsea, Fulham or the surrounding areas who already have the basic structure of a loft conversion in place, i.e. sufficient flooring and an adequate pitch and internal height, ABC Builders can install Velux rooflights to maximise natural light. Larger rooflights are ideal for our clients looking to enhance their surrounding views.
